Saturday 8th April Race Meeting.

This Saturday night 8th April, the Wingless Sprints will be the main attraction with 20 cars wanting to take home the prestige ‘Peter Merrett Trophy Race’. Recent State Title holder ‘Glenn Watts’ will be the one to beat but im sure Luke Weel and Jason Langdon will be hot on his heals. Don’t rule out the crowd favorite and nephew ’Peter Merrett in the V10’ as he will put everything on the line to take out the win.

Super Rods have also nominated in droves with 17 cars looking to maximize their points for the season aggregate. With their State Title only a couple of weeks away, Saturdays racing will be a good test to see who can be out in front at the end of the night.

The Vintage cars will be on show with the cars of the yesteryear. Some of the classics will be the unusual shaped Super Modified of Garry Cotton and Fred Plater, along with the early Sprintcar of Peter Swandale. Make sure you come along to support the drivers that put on a show for you.

Due to lack of numbers, the Junior Sedans have been removed from the program.

Gates open at 4pm with racing from 6pm.

And don’t forget the Annual Dinner will be our next function and will be held at the Clubrooms on Saturday 27th May. Make sure you contact the club to secure your seat at a table, or better still, bring your team along to celebrate the season and fill the table up.

Final Race of the season taken out by Matthew Balcombe

Matt Balcombe CarMatty Balcombe Podiummerrett podiumsuper rod podiumThe last meeting of the season at Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway was run last night and the racing was hailed the best of the season.

With the rain threatening all day, the committee decided to push on and hold the show. Racing was underway with the vintage and Super Rods in support of the Wingless Sprint "Peter Merrett Trophy Race".

All races were fast and clean with very little stops during heats. The Super Rods put on a great show for the crowd with the final producing the closest racing in recent history. With a three way battle between Michael Coad, Ewan McKenzie and Shawn Duynhoven. The racing was close until a racing incident on lap 8 cars saw Coad and McKenzie come together resulting in a rollover and stoppage. This left Shawn Duynhoven who cleared the off from the pack to take the deserving win from 2nd  Leigh Podger and 3rd Daryl Nelson.

The Wingless Sprints were then left with the final race for the season and there was no disappointment for the crowd with another three way battle between Matthew Balcombe, Carly Walsh and Jason Langdon. From about lap 10 of the 25 lap race, it was clearly going to be a great finish to the season at the Bungador Bullring. With Balcombe taking his first "Peter Merrett" win, with Walsh in second and Langdon close behind with only .657 separating the three cars.

The quality of racing was outstanding and it was a spectacular event to complete the season.
