The dust has settled on the 2026 Australian Speedcar Championship!!
This was a project that started 5 years ago with a conversation that the great man Jim Lock struck up with Andy Pearce, this planted a seed. A seed that came to flower on Friday night when the Australian Speedcar Championship preliminary night kicked off.
The heat racing was amazing, some of the best Speedcar racing that has been produced. Come the Prelim Finals 1 & 2, both finals were loaded with the best Speedcar drivers Australia has, plus some top international drivers. Kaidon Brown and Brad Mosen took out the top spot in their respective finals.
Night 2, the day was a bit warmer and the flies a bit thicker. Kicking off the night, the first winner was Q8 Scott Doyle taking out Best Presented Car, which was sponsored by Phil Lock and his family.
The spectators packed the hill with the biggest crowd of the season. Twenty tennis balls were thrown out to the kids in the crowd to set up driver presentations later in the night.
Again, the heat racing had everyone on the edge of their seats. The pole shuffle of Speedcars at Simpson is possibly the best sliding you will see from drivers while still respecting racing room. Pole position was about to be decided between Kaidon Brown and Brad Mosen. Unfortunately, we only got to see one run between the pair, as Brad had to pull in.
Driver presentations kicked off with 20 lucky kids getting the opportunity to present a driver with a medallion and getting themselves a signed Simpson Speedway cap from that driver.
We arrived at Championship Feature time and It kicked off with fire, fireworks, and a four-wide call by Ian “The Fly” Lewis.
Brown led the charge for most of the race, until Harry Stewart got past him after Brown got into the fence, washing away his race lead. From there, Stewart started extending the lead until the technical cushion caught him out in Turns 3 and 4, sending the leader flying. Brown was back to the front, where he led to the checkered flag, getting himself deeper into the history books and joining a small group of Speedcar drivers to achieve three championships.
We thank everyone who made this event possible. It was a huge undertaking for our volunteers, members, and committee to piece this all together.
To all the sponsors — without you, this kind of event doesn’t happen. To the partners of our volunteers — thank you for understanding their love of the club.
To the support classes over the weekend — you guys put on some amazing racing. We hope you all enjoyed the weekend. And finally, Jim Lock. We wish you got to see this. We know you rallied the club to get on board with this idea as soon as you found out it was possible. Well, we did it, and we are sure you would have absolutely loved to see the cracking racing that was on.
With a bit of a break before our next race, we are going to take a few days to relax and then be back with the final two nights of the season.
