The Speedway occupies approximately 1.2 acres. It accommodates up to 100 competing vehicles at any given race meeting.

Facilities Provided

Canteen and toilet facilities for public use. Water access available at five locations around the pits for use by teams

Vehicle Restrictions

Only tow vehicles, transporters, emergency vehicles, trade vendors, and officials’ vehicles are allowed in the pits. No dogs or animals allowed in the pit area for safety reasons.

History & Legacy

Founded

Simpson Speedway was established in 1973 and has a history spanning over 40 years of thrilling race events.

Location

Situated in South West Victoria, the Speedway plays a crucial role in the local community, founded through the hard work and vision of volunteers, businesses, and motorsport enthusiasts.

Track Shape

The Speedway’s unique teardrop-shaped track (known as the “egg” or “avocado” shape by drivers) offers a challenging course for competitors.

Key Milestones

1971

Initial earthworks began during Easter.

1974

The first race meeting was held on 24th March 1974, marking the official opening of the Speedway.

1984

The installation of a concrete fence replaced the older wooden barrier for improved safety.

1987

The Speedway shifted to night racing under lights, a landmark decision that boosted its appeal for competitors and spectators alike.

Recent Upgrades

2015

Significant upgrades to the track surface with 3,000 meters of clay laid. A new water truck was donated by life members Max and Dot Nelson and RA Steel in Warrnambool, enhancing track safety and professionalism.

2019/2020

The Speedway hosted the Australian Formula 500 Championship and Australian 360ci Sprintcar Championship, two of the most prestigious events in the club’s history.

Continual Improvements

Simpson Speedway, with the help of its naming sponsor Heytesbury Stockfeeds, is continually enhancing its facilities to maintain its status as a premier motorsport venue in South West Victoria.
