Annual Majors For Simpson Speedway

Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway has another packed program of action this Saturday night with the 46th edition of the Trevor Podger Memorial for Super Rods presented by Colac Wreckers.

The 16th running of the Front Row Challenge for Wingless Sprints, round 5 for the Dirt X Industries VSC Sports Sedan Power Series and the fifth round of the Dutton One Southern Speedcar Tour are also majors.

Last year it was Hamilton’s Dane Court who proved too good with a hard-fought victory in the annual Trevor Podger Memorial race defeating previous winners Jamie May and Shaun Walsh.

Only May is returning and will be hoping to go higher on the podium.

The current Super Rod Victorian champion Jacob Pitcher whose father Allan Pitcher and brother Bailey Pitcher in their Barinas look good prospects as do Michael Coad, and the Marco family of Stan Snr and sons Stan Jnr and Tommy Marco in their Chev-powered machines will also be worth keeping an eye on.

This year’s Front Row Challenge has attracted 45 cars and 2022 winner Chris Temby won’t be there to defend as he races with the All Star Sprintcar Series.

Luke Weel will be back in action again Saturday night

Some past winners who have entered include three-times winner Luke Weel, Mick Rigby, James and Sam Wren and all perform very well at Simpson Speedway.

Others who are likely to be in the mix include Matthew Symons, Chris Halesworth and the Warren brothers Brad and Jake, while the popular brother and sister team of Carly and Blake Walsh and the father-daughter duo of Ray and Bianca Klemm will all be on their home track.

Justin McMinn was the recent winner of the Southern Speedcar Tour from current series leader Nick Parker and Ashley Booker at Avalon Raceway last weekend.

The VSC Sports Sedans put on a brilliant display of racing last year at Simpson and there will be 33 cars all vying for the $2000-to-win first prize.
