Pit Area Bulging this Saturday night

THE pit area at Heytesbury Stockfoods Simpson Speedway will be bulging this Saturday night with the biggest ever car count in the club’s history. 

Fans are in for a real treat with a massive 135 driver nominations across three divisions including Wingless Sprints, Formula 500s and Speedcars in action.

The Wingless Sprints boasts 72 entries for the second round of The Midfield Group Summer Slam Series. Round one will be at Borderline Speedway, Mount Gambier on Saturday night and the final round set for Premier Speedway on Sunday evening.

Drivers to watch include last season’s Slam runner-up Travis Millar and third placed Mitchell Broome, while former national champion Alex Ross looks a likely contender as does his brother Harry. 

One of the more interesting battles will be between the Walsh family.

Father Mark “Freddy” Walsh is on the comeback trail after more than a decade out of the seat and will be joined by daughter Carly and son Blake. With Carly’s fiancé Chris Ansell also is in the field as is fellow relations Marlin Walsh and Mick Rigby. 

A strong field of 41 Formula 500s will be chasing their Dash for Cash tournament across the three venues. The top three overall finishers from their recent Speedweek Series Jordy Rae, Dylan Beveridge and James MacDonald are entered while Tim Rankin, Jack Bell, Dylan Willsher and Angus Hollis will push for podium finishes. 

The Southern Speedcar Sweep takes in the three tracks and 22 drivers will be vying for part of the $23,000 prize pool. Travis Mills and son Caleb will be tough to beat and will have to hold out Nathan Smee, Harley Bishop, Domain Ramsay and Andy Pearce for line honors.

Gates open at 4pm and Racing from 5pm.
