Victorian F500 Title Decider This Saturday Night

Jack Bell will be aiming to win his third Victorian Formula 500 Championship at Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway this Saturday night presented by Westvic Sheds and Garages.

The 26-year-old Warrnambool driver is the defending champion of this blue-ribbon event and was a previous winner of the title 2019.

Last year at Nyora Raceway he led from start to finish to defeat Jordan Rae and faces tough competition from South Australian Angelo Karoussis who won a third straight South Australian F500 title last weekend at Mount Gambier.

Karoussis defeated a fast-finishing Tim Rankin and Dale Sinclair who all look likely to be in the frame for more honours this weekend.

For Rankin of Simpson who is also the club president, he describes his car as “a beast.” He’s a past state winner and says winning at his home track would be special.

“It’s been a car that’s been good to me over the years. It just seems to work for me…it’d be good to win the title at home that’s for sure,” Rankin said.

“I reckon this weekend there’s between 10 to 12 different drivers that are good enough to win. Anyone who makes this A-Main this weekend has done well.”

Warrnambool’s Dylan Willsher has won most major races in the F500’s around Australia but this race win has eluded him.

The 2015 Australian champion has had solid form at Simpson Speedway this season and will be in contention for a share of the $8000 in prizemoney.

Also on the big program of racing is the Junior Formula 500s and JSPA Junior Sedans.

Gates open at 4pm and racing from 5.30pm.
